I guess I'm starting this blog on a whim. I read a few blogs religiously, mostly of friends and their beautiful families. But for me, I'm starting this blog not as a day-to-day, detailed event of my life, but more as an 'open journal' or 'food for thought' if you will. I hope to add a little 'positive thinking' to your day, when the rest of the world and media seems to focus on all the negatives and wrong.
My job leads me to spending several hours a week on the road... driving from point A to point B. I refer to this time behind the wheel as 'windshield time'. This time in the car makes room for a lot of thinking time, self reflection and evaluation, and of course lots of time with my 'radio friends' such as Jason Aldean, Katy Perry, Reba McEntire, Black Eyed Peas, The Band Perry.... and the list goes on & on.
I must admit, I listen to mostly country. I love the way the stories within the music can explain some of the most intimate and personal situations in life. I love that you can actually understand the lyrics and when you listen close enough, it provides a way to relate your life story with someone else. And I love that Country Music can take me back to that small town of 1,200 people in which I was raised. It can make me miss the sites and sounds of a farming community but yet make me realize the places I've been and the opportunities I've been given in my short 30 years of life.
But maybe your type of music isn't notes written on a piece of paper and played by some type of instrument. A very brief definition of melody is described as such:
A sequence of single notes that is musically satisfying.
Maybe your 'melody' is not that of music and lyrics while riding in the car. Maybe your music is the sound of crickets on a late summer night, and the crackle of the fireplace while cozying up to the one you love in the middle of dead winter. Maybe your music is the sounds of pots and pans clanging together as you sit and have a home made meal made with love by your aging Grandma. Maybe it's to the sound of whistles and referees as you sit in the stands rooting for your baby during his/her last games of their senior year of high school. Maybe your music is the sounds of your children laughing and playing in the next room, or the cry of the new infant you just brought home that you've been dreaming about since you found Mr. Right.
Everyone's music is different. Everyone's life is different. But as each person goes through life, all these sounds give us the precious things called memories. Memories allow us to move forward in life but yet reflect upon times that we once thought were 'the best', 'the happiest', or possibly 'the hardest'. So today, I start this blog as a reflection of my feelings when hearing a certain song. Someday, maybe I'll be able to include the sounds of love and laughter we experience when we decide to start a family. But maybe this blog will provide you with some light-hearted thoughts about life and the blessings that we all receive. Whatever YOUR music may be, I hope my thoughts help remind each and everyone of you, along with myself, of the importance of life's little memories and that we are never promised tomorrow. So laugh often, love stronger, and listen close to:
